How many of your churches have a ministry of encouragement? Maybe it is best said this way: "Does your church focus on the on-going encouragement of it's members?" Also, how many of your churches utilize the Pastor Appreciation materials that are out there? How have you as a pastor been recognized for all of the task of leading the people of God?

Another area of encouragement would be pastors helping pastors. Hopefully, this is what boards like this are meant to do. Are we encouraging other pastors in our ministry areas? How about it?
In my experience, the pastors that find outlets like this one for discussion and fellowship are the minority. There are so many of our fellow co-labours that needs a word now and then. Actually, more "now" than "then."

Our association covers several thousand square miles. Our DOM has divided the the area into three sections. Once a month each area gets together for a pastor breakfast. I think this is a great way to share with one another .

That is a wonderful way to encourage each other. Hey, if your DOM doesn't do something like that, ask him to think about starting a luncheon or brealkfast for your area pastors. If they can't fit it in to their already loaded schedule, why not take that on for a ministry of your personal churches! Remember to invite the DOM as well! There are a lot of hurting pastors out there that need a word of encouragement or just a sympathetic ear.

A pastors breakfast may be a great time to invite a non-Southern Baptist pastor for fellowship. Can you imanage an Independent Baptist pastor attending, and finding out that Southern Baptist are not that different? Our next breakfast is scheduled for Jan. Will let you know how it goes. Any other ideals out there

May I request a ministry of encourgement. I am currently in contact with two churches concerning their empty pulpit. Both churches are rather small and have indicated they are in dire need of leadership. I have spoken on the phone with members from both churches. There seems to be mutual interest. However, it seems to me that they both are draging their feet in the diffucult taksk in seeking a pastor. My questions: How often should I contact the chruches to check on progress? Should I inform them I am considering other churches?
Is there any other guidance you could share with me?
I would like to note I have been pastor of other churches, but I started those myself. This is the first time I am seeking a pastorate in this manner.

That is a challenge. How do we get them to move on such issues? I'm not sure I know. But I do know that we've all faced it.
I have no problems with contacting them every other week if I don't hear anything. If they seem really interested in filling the position, you could even go once a week. Something like: "I just wanted to check back with you..." They'll get tired of the emails and either move on it or notify you of a change in direction. Terrible, I know, but it is reality. Nothing wrong with politely bugging them.
As for telling them you are looking at other churches, I have never told any church that because of the danger of them closing the door rather than God doing it. What? you say. Churches moving outside of the will of God?!?
Sorry I could be more helpful. I'll still be praying for your situation.

Och!!! This is the very heart of our new ministry! Gentlemen! Let me request that you look at the topic entitled "do you need some temporary help?" The wife and I have been blessed by the Lord with an RV. We have begun a new ministry of serving churches who are in need of some help for a short season. We are available to come and serve in many capacities to enable a struggling church get on their feet. Our needs are simple, fuel to reach there, and electricity and water and groceries to sustain us while there. Read through the topic and let us know how we can be of encouragement to you or a church you know.
