Hello Again Fellas and Gals,
I have been asked to perform a wedding in a couple of weeks and I thought I'd ask you'all what might be your preferances for 'ceremonial' dress. My present pastor does baptisms in a shirt and swim suit, weddings wearing a tux (a first for me), and funerals in a black suit. I fail to see a pattern there! My past pastor and my intern mentor, did all three in a black robe. I'm thinking along the lines of the robe. What say ye?
When I preach I wear cowboy boots, jeans, henley shirt, (no collar, so no tie) and a sportcoat. The boots and jeans are clean with no green stuff either. I don't think that will do. Do you? Ron

Fit the situation. There is no set pattern for these types of services. If the wedding that is planned is a traditional formal affair, a darker suit on the conservative side might be recommended. If it is a relax wedding, say outside or a theme service like a cowboy or martial art {yes, I have done this!! ;D} wedding, then the dress is unique to the situation. This obviously comes from the wedding party. Wthin the counseling side of things, ask what format and feeling the service is to be. It is the bride's and groom's day after all. Ask them if they have a dress preference. Weddings can be a blast if everyone stays relaxed. Tell that the grooms! ;D I remember sweating bullets! ;D

I would never wear a robe for a wedding or ect. (I know you are never to say never. What is the purpose of wearing a robe. When I was in the Army, a Chaplain wore a scarf type garment over his military unifiorm. I asked him one day (in all sincerity) why he did that. He said he wore it so people woud not be distracted by his military medals (of which he had several) I than responded that if people came only to see his medals, than they would not get anything out of his message anyways. He never wore that "scarf" again at Zwiebruecken.
