You would do better to get your pastor to pass your name to his friends and talk to preachers in your area. Few folks that I know have a supply preacher come in from out of town that they do not know even if he offers a tape.

Thanks for the advice. If God opens a door o.k. if He dosen't it's o.k. too. I just don't have any pastor friends. I went aginst the grain and left the denomination ( Independent Fundamental Baptist). The only friend (SBC) I have is sort of worthless. I just recently moved, so I've only been in my present church about 2 months. (I've already preached one Sunday morning). ;D I am making a friendship with him. I am going to the state evangelism conference with him this week. It's sad to say but it seems that it's who you know. I've been burnt pretty bad by people I put my trust in. I had to learn the hard way. A pastor I was under 5 years would not reccommend me, but his daughter asked me to support her on the mission field. It was alright for me and my wife to build His church up. We went soul-winning every Saturday for 5 years. I also ran a bus route and brought in between 65 and 100 each week. Another pastor, another 5 years w/ same result, I believe he was a wolf in sheeps clothing. I left to pastor a small church. I believe God told me to leave. I resigned after HE tripled the attendance. That's where I am now. I know what they do when I send a resume to a search team, they read Education: Fundamental Baptist and it gets thrown in the trash can. This is why I am trying another route. Do you remember what God said to Abraham and Sarah "Is anything too hard for the Lord." Genesis 18:14. Again thanks for the advice. Blessings in His name Bud Davis

I have been there done that. Don't give up on the Independents just because one guy was a jerk. The SBC has their share as well. With your background you will have problems in the SBC as well concerning various issues and convictions. Unless you can give those up you won't make it in the SBC either. I have served with both and currently with a an Independent because most of the SBCs in my area are extremely Liberal, even the "Conservatives." Some of my Ind friends would not touch me if they knew I had been an SBC preacher and the SBCs won't have much to do with me because I did not attend SBC schools. You may find that you will return to the Independents. Just be balanced when you do and don't let the jerk make you bitter.

There are many of us who have felt betrayed and hurt by our fellow pastors. It is a shame, a blot on the pastoral community but unfortunately true. Pastors are human beings, and you know what kind of stinkers they can be. Keep the faith. "Have not I commanded thee, be strong and of good courage. Be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed (or discouraged) for the LORD thy God is with thee, whithersoever thou goest. Joshua 1:9 Invest your time in the Lord, not in other human beings. I have found that Christ has never failed me, though fellow pastors have.

Jesus trusted himself to no man for He knew all men. To a degree we need to follow that example. As much as I believed I am loved where I am now, I will not be surprised if one day I am as hated as much as I am now loved. Humans are fickle and Christians can be the worst. Just work on your relationship with Him and let Him get you through the relationships with men.
Keep looking up!

Remember my Sisters and Brothers in Christ, there is a hungry flock out there who are eager to hear the good news about Jesus. Today, we have a hurting world out there. God's Word and Jesus are powerful calming agents. "I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord".
